Schedule:

Day 1: Arrive in Monterrey and enjoy a dinner of the best tacos and other cuisine in Mexico at El Papalotes.

Day 2: We’ll have an early start to drive to Parque Chipinque to climb La M. This route has awesome vertical climbs with via ferratas, and ends with majestic views of Monterrey. After showers and a little downtime back at the hotel, we’ll head out for an amazing traditional northern Mexican dinner and drinks, featuring all kinds of delicious meats.

Day 3: We’ll have another early start to go to Parque Huasteca and climb Horcones. This route features steep, hands-on-knees climbs, leading to class 3 scrambling up to a gorgeous ridgeline. Bring your camera! Back to Monterrey for another awesome dinner and relaxing.

Day 4: We’ll drive about 30 minutes to the town of Santa Catarina to take on Pico Perico. This route starts behind a local subdivision and quickly disappears up the mountain. We’ll pass through abandoned quartz mines and climb steep via ferrata routes. The payoff in views at the top is totally worth it. From the summit, we’ll see the two previous day’s summits in the distance. We’ll cruise back down for the drive to Ciudad Victoria, where we’ll stay for the night.

Day 5: After a good night’s rest, we’ll drive just outside of town to run the trails on Señor Horacio’s land. We’ll bring food for a lunch prepared by Horacio over an open fire at his personal home. This is a cultural experience you’ll talk about forever. Then we’ll head back to Miquihuana to relax at the beautiful boutique Sol y Luna Resort, where we’ll stay for the next two nights.

Day 6: We’ll head out from the resort at sunrise to run through town as it wakes for the day. The trail will take us up the mountains just outside of town, past ranches, century-old water systems, and wildflowers, finishing in the beautiful La Joya valley.

Day 7: With abrazos (hugs) from our new friends, we’ll load up in the morning for the drive back to Monterrey to catch flights and see everyone off. For those riding back in the van, settle in for the ride to San Antonio and Austin.

After signing up, we’ll send more information and hold Zoom calls where you can ask questions, meet the team, and get additional details. In the meantime, feel free to contact us at Fun@TejasTrails.com if you have any questions.

Travel Safety:

Anytime you travel in another country it is important to know the lay of the land. Mexico is a wonderful country with good infrastructure. We will be traveling by private van during our trip. Security is similar to traveling in any international country and cities. It is important to be aware of your surroundings and leave valuables at home. The areas in which we travel are not typical areas of high crime, and we stay in close communication with local authorities to be aware of any current situations that require itinerary modifications.

Mexico is a wonderfully open and kind culture. Our goal is to avoid any rare, dangerous exceptions.
